Reverence

Reverence is a biblical virtue that is largely unknown in these days. The part of the spirit of the times which is the spirit of rebellion, and which has now ruled for many years, has caused the majority of people who are alive today to have barely any idea what reverence is. It is like Greek to those who do not know the language. The Scriptures exhort us to honor father and mother, to honor those who are old and rise up before them! It is not because they are so particularly God-fearing, but simply because they are our mothers and fathers, or the person concerned is old or is one’s husband. The wife is exhorted to have reverence for her husband. We are even exhorted to honor everyone! According to the Scriptures, this is sufficient reason. Those who are humble understand it, because there is wisdom with the humble.

However, those who are conceited cannot comprehend it in any way whatsoever. They do not show any reverence to anyone; on the contrary, they think that it is not fitting.

Reverence is a powerful manifestation of humility, and it is why one does not unnecessarily and in an irreverent tone of voice contradict anyone.
