God’s Mighty Hand

God’s Mighty Hand

Jesus is now sitting at God’s mighty right hand after having been led by this mighty hand all the way to the throne. He had humbled Himself under this mighty hand in every situation. He let God lead Him and mold Him all the way, according to what was written in the volume of the book. The prophets saw in detail how it would go with Jesus outwardly, but the inner life was first revealed by the apostles. Jesus humbly and meekly bowed to what He heard from His Father. There He found His rest, and it was His desire to lead all those who suffered and were weary and heavy laden to this blessed rest. The way to this rest and peace was to learn meekness and lowliness of heart. Matt. 11:28-30.

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Pet. 5:6-7.

All those who have bowed under this mighty hand in the time of humiliation and grace will also experience a glorious time of exaltation. They have believed in Romans 8:28, that all things work together for good to those who love God, and in 1 Corinthians 10:13, that no temptation will be too great.

However, there will also be a day of humiliation and judgment when God will stretch out His mighty hand, and every proud eye will be humbled and brought low. “For the day of the Lord of hosts shall come upon everything proud and lofty, upon everything lifted up—and it shall be brought low . . . .” Isa. 2:11-12.

Behind this mighty hand of God there is a good and warm heart filled with perfect wisdom, goodness, and care. “Yes, He loves the people; all His saints are in Your hand; they sit down at Your feet; everyone receives Your words.” Deut. 33:3. There is plenty of room in His hand for all the saints, and the seven eyes which are the seven lamps of fire see that everything is for the best of His saints. He has a plan with everything that happens in their lives. He nourishes and molds them through chastisement and comfort.

In Psalm 89:19 we read a prophecy concerning Jesus: “I have given help to one who is mighty.” It is important that we can receive this help from His outstretched hand as much as possible. Jesus was tempted so that we might receive help when we are tempted. Heb. 2:18. Now we can boldly go to the throne of grace and receive mercy and help at the right time. Heb. 4:16. This help leads us to a better hope and to a greater salvation than what they were able to attain in the old covenant.

Because Jesus humbled Himself in lowliness and obedience until He died on the cross, God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, of those on earth, and of those under the earth. Also the proud and arrogant will have to bow their knees and acknowledge that the judgment being meted out to them is just. Phil. 2:8-11. “That each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Cor. 5:10.

Just as there was a way to God’s throne for Jesus when He was willingly led by the Father’s right hand, so the way is also open for us—by being humble and faithful.

“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Rev. 3:21.

“The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted, the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.” Ps. 118:15-16.

“You have a mighty arm; strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand.” Ps. 89:14.
