The Son Can Do Nothing of Himself
“I can of Myself do nothing . . . because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” John 5:30. “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him . . . .” John 6:38. “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matt. 26:39.
This tells us with all possible clarity what Christ manifested in flesh means. Concerning this point, the same John also writes very serious words in 1 John 4:2 and 3—namely, that those who confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh are of God and that those who do not confess that He has come in the flesh are not of God. In other words, He did not come in some kind of flesh different from ours, but as it is written in Hebrews 2:14: He, in like manner as we, partook of flesh and blood, and that He had to be made like His brethren in all things. Heb. 2:17.
It is scandalous to doubt this! It is tantamount to rejecting God’s plain Word on the grounds that one cannot understand it. We must believe God’s Word, and then the understanding will be added to us.
