Judge Not That You Be Not Judged
To be humble and at the same time judge the others is a study in contrasts. The one who judges others is saying at the same time that he is not like that. He actually praises himself. Judging the others is praising yourself.
We can learn this vital lesson from Jesus: “Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.” 1 Pet. 2:23.
“For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” Heb. 2:18.
“Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” Heb. 5:8-9. When Jesus was not yet perfected, He did not have such great thoughts about Himself that He thought He could judge righteously. Therefore we read, “Do not avenge yourselves . . . for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” Rom. 12:19.
Jesus says, “Learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matt. 11:29.
We are set free from much sin, and we experience a tremendous rest if we leave it up to God to judge and avenge. God be praised for such a salvation!
