A Peaceful Man
A peaceful man keeps the peace with all men as far as it is possible. He is like oil on troubled waters. If there is unrest and strife in a house where he visits, he comes as a peacemaker, and his peace stays there when he leaves. He does not argue about earthly things, because he will inherit all things anyway.
He pursues peace and proclaims it. He strives after the things that make for peace. Rom. 12:18. He preserves the unity of the Spirit in the bonds of peace, and the peace of Christ rules in his heart.
He is quick to be reconciled with his brother if he knows his brother has something against him. He is silent about matters that can cause unnecessary strife. He can grow up to be a king of peace.
There is a human peaceableness, but it always fails. The peaceful man always lets the sword of the Spirit separate him from all ungodly fellowship, and he is not a busybody.
He never seeks to assert himself. He does not commit conscious sin, because then he would immediately be in unrest. He does not set himself up as an advocate of those who seek to further their own interests. He does not fight for his father, mother, sister, brother, wife, or children in a human way.
His peace is in covenant with the laws of the Spirit of life. Those who are restless but have a desire for peace find safety and assurance in him and a defense against storms and “bad weather.” “For the future of that man is peace.” Ps. 37:37. God’s wisdom is pure and peaceable. Jas. 3:17.
