“My Burden Is Light.”
Yes, His burden is light. However, all other burdens are undeniably heavy, and quite often very heavy!
This is in perfect harmony with 1 John 5:3: “And His commandments are not burdensome.” Of course not! They are light! And in the same verse we can see with all clarity what it really concerns: keeping God’s commandments. This was the very thing the apostles were to foster in the believers. Rom. 1:5, 16; 16:26; Matt. 28:20.
Here we also read for whom this burden is light, for whom it will succeed: those who are born of God, those who believe and love. For all the others it is burdensome, and it can therefore not succeed for them, even though they might be somewhat interested in it—which they usually are not.
It is so meaningless to most of those who get converted that even in these days they are opposed to hearing about it.
The good and glad tidings of the gospel are precisely this: That which we so clearly and plainly are called to shall succeed! The Lord be greatly praised!
