“For You Are Not Mindful of the Things of God, But the Things of Men.”
The things of God are: God’s kingdom and the life of God in our inner man, a holy and pure life in all the virtues of Christ. They are: sacrifice, serving, obedience in everything until death, living for the others, seeking God’s glory and His pleasure. The things of men are: getting by as cheaply as possible in every situation; avoiding trials and difficulties; having things beautiful and easy; avoiding reproach; having sympathy for a few people and feeling antipathy toward most people; criticizing and judging others, as well as justifying yourself to the deepest degree; fighting for your rights and being extremely unwilling to suffer unjustly; seeking your own advantage as much as possible. Having fun! Whatever you are mindful of is what you think about most and seek after with all of your heart: working as little as possible; earning as high a salary as possible, plus receiving other benefits; receiving as much honor from men as possible; avoiding sickness and pain; being healed; avoiding sufferings of any kind; being spared from reproach.
