Bringing About the Obedience to the Faith

Romans 1:5

Here Paul briefly wrote that this was his only ministry and task. Everything else had this as its aim. Jesus Himself also stated that this was the disciples’ sole task after they were converted and had become disciples and were baptized. So this statement is in full agreement with what Jesus said. Therefore this is also primarily our task in this world. God has given us abundant grace for this unspeakably great mission.

When we think of the usual activity of the various denominations and movements, the sad fact is that, unfortunately, this essential element is completely lacking, with the result that they are merely busy with the elementary principles that are clearly stated in Hebrews 6:1-3.

The great masses of “believers” are, in a manner of speaking, struck with blindness. They do not see the main point, despite the fact that almost all of the New Testament deals with this.

Paul writes that the reason must be that God does not permit them to advance to perfection! In actual fact, people lack not only faith that something like this can succeed, but the great masses are even opponents of this essential point.
