Kindled by the Fire of the Lord

“And of the angels He says: ‘Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire.’” Heb. 1:7.

Jesus says that everyone who is born of the Spirit is like the wind that blows where it wishes. John 3:8.

If the angels were like flames of fire, then Jesus was even more so. Jesus served in the Spirit of wisdom which is more agile than all agility. This Spirit is one of God’s seven lamps of fire that is to burn in our hearts.

We need more fire in our hearts and more fire on our tongues. James writes that a little fire can set a large forest aflame. He writes further that the tongue can be an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. But when the fire of wisdom enters our hearts and is on our tongues, it can be guided and can be a great blessing so it can bear abundant fruit for eternity.

We need to be kindled by this fire of the Lord ourselves; then we can also kindle this same fire in many other hearts. If this fire of love does not burn in our hearts for Christ, it is easy for our steps to end up on the way where we live for ourselves. Then what is meant to die will live, and what is meant to live will die.

It was Jesus’ desire to cast the fire that burned in His own heart into the hearts of the disciples, but that was impossible before Pentecost. However, then they did experience a revival of Spirit, fire, and glory. Then there grew up an unbreakable unity, and a glorious brotherhood. All the claims of the self-life on greatness, power, and honor were consumed by a holy zeal. Now it was possible to serve one another and be subject to one another in humility. In this Spirit the church could be built on a solid foundation. This church is God’s own building. He Himself adds to the church those that would be saved. This is our future and our hope! The church will endure its trial by fire.
