Blameless

“Noah was a just man, blameless in his generations.” Gen. 6:9. “Job . . . was blameless . . . .” Job 1:1. “I was also blameless before Him . . . .” 2 Sam. 22:24; Ps. 18:24. “The Lord knows the days of the blameless . . . .” Ps. 37:18.

If it is possible to be blameless, yet there is no one who is blameless, how can God know the days of the blameless? “Mark the blameless man . . . .” Ps. 37:37. How can we be exhorted to mark the blameless man if there is no such man?

Zacharias and Elizabeth were both blameless before God, “walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.” Luke 1:6. “That you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Cor. 1:8. “That we should be holy and without blame before Him . . . .” Eph. 1:4.

“That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish . . . .” Eph. 5:27. This means quite simply that there is nothing in our lives or in our ministry that can be censured. God Himself is pleased with everything! People might criticize you, but of course that really means nothing!

It was possible for those who lived in the old covenant to be blameless according to the standard that applied at that time. In the new covenant, where the light is so much stronger, we can be blameless according to this glorious light because the help we can receive is so much greater and stronger. There is help to be found at the right time at the throne of grace. Heb. 4:16.

“That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault . . . .” Phil. 2:15. “To present you holy and blameless, and irreproachable in His sight . . . .” Col. 1:22.

“You are witnesses, and God also, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe . . . .” 1 Thess. 2:10. That was a fact! Then every question about whether it is possible falls away. “So that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness . . . .” 1 Thess. 3:13. “An overseer then must be blameless . . . .” 1 Tim. 3:2. “And these things command, that they may be blameless.” 1 Tim. 5:7. “That you keep this commandment without spot, blameless . . . .” 1 Tim. 6:14. “Sound speech, blameless . . . .” Tit. 2:8.

The evidence of one’s faith in something so indescribably great and glorious is that one displays a correspondingly great and constant zeal for all the good things the Scriptures teach and exhort us to.
