Every Spiritual Blessing

“Who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ . . . .” Eph. 1:3.

Temporal blessings are earthly goods; for example, good health, or healing for the body. Spiritual blessings, on the other hand, are something completely different! This can be inferred from the words “in the heavenly places” because there are no earthly blessings there.

What do the words “every spiritual blessing” imply? They imply everything noble and blessed in a godly sense! That includes all the virtues of Christ; all the fruits of the Spirit; perfect rest in God; being completely free from all sorts of anxiety; endless peace and goodness; endless love, patience, longsuffering, joy, rejoicing, and sincere thankfulness; being filled with good and profitable thoughts and words; always ready and willing to do all kinds of good deeds, etc., etc.

That was the attitude of mind of Paul and of several others with him. That is how God can bless every receptive brother and sister! All glory to God!—whose desire it is to have us partake of such a profound salvation!
