God’s Judgments
“For Your judgments are full of goodness.” Ps. 119:39b. (French tr.).
The Norwegian Bible translation of the same sentence reads as follows: “For Your judgments are good.” The French translation is almost sensational.
Who has ever thought about that, or thought thoroughly about it? We are chastened when we transgress His laws. He doesn’t chasten us to torment us, but rather to help us. It is just like when children are chastened by their parents in the right way: namely, because they truly love their children, because by doing it they are helping their children to understand that it does not pay to be disobedient, so that they can choose to be obedient. That is only goodness!
How much more when God chastens us and when He lets His true light shine into our lives so that we are judged?
It is really true: His judgments are full of goodness! This also tells us that He always saves and helps us in the easiest and gentlest way: with the least possible sufferings, shame, and reproach, even though we—in our foolishness—imagine something quite different.
God is good—through and through. He is all-good! That is precisely why He spares us—in His wisdom and goodness—from every unnecessary suffering and humiliation! What incredibly great love and goodness! How He deserves to be worshiped!!!
