Deuteronomy, Chapter 20
We can consider this Chapter an example of a glorious life of victory, now, during the time of the new covenant!
Even if it seems ever so difficult, we shall have victory because God is with us. He will deliver all the enemies into our hand! It is essential for us neither to be terrified nor to tremble, neither to fear nor to doubt, but rather to believe firmly and fully in always gaining the victory, always conquering every enemy—every mentionable sin!
No timidity, no weakness, no failure, no servility, no wavering, but firm and immovable; only victory without exception! Great boldness! At that time it was said, “God will deliver them into your hands. Besiege the strong city until it falls!” This was a sure thing. And this is also how it is for us now irrespective of which sin it is! It shall be put off! It shall be overcome! It shall be utterly destroyed!
There is a particularly hopeful word in verse 16: “You shall let nothing that breathes remain alive.” Al conscious sin—whatever it may be—shall disappear in the death of Christ!
The word of the new covenant speaks as follows: “always victory,” “more than victory,” “triumphant victory!”
That means: be finished with—put an end to—the works of the devil (conscious sin). Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world! All praise and honor to the Lord.
