Most converted people lack the right understanding of life! The Bible concordance lists about five hundred scripture references under sin. They are extremely well suited to give us a sound understanding of the life, and to eradicate many misunderstandings!
Jesus came into the world for the sake of sin; not only to atone for our sins so that we can receive forgiveness, but to destroy the works of the devil in our life; to give us victory over all conscious sin so that we can put off the old man with his works, which is all conscious sin; even to save and transform us to the extent that we can be completely finished with doing anything at all that we know to be sin, and for making a way (so to speak) to an unlimited sanctification if we walk in the light that we have, thus receiving more light, so we can also put unconscious sin to death.
Almost everything that is written in the New Testament concerns this point—and it is written in the clearest and strongest terms.
To sin is to break the law—which is terrible! It is to give in when I am tempted. To sin is to fail; it is to be unfaithful. It is criminal. All sin punishes itself. We have to reap what we have sown. To sin is to be ungodly. It is meaningless. It is the greatest folly you can imagine; you are gambling with your life. Every single sin that is being committed is eternal loss! Forgiveness does not restore what you have lost by sinning. Every time you sin you lose out on a victory!
It is absolutely not necessary to sin! Not at all!
“All things are possible to him who believes.” “Let it be done to you as you have believed.” How foolish it is to believe in defeat!
People are usually afraid of both this and that—things that the Scriptures explicitly and clearly forbid us to be afraid of! By doing it you break the law—you sin! On the other hand, you are not at all afraid of the one thing you should be afraid of, which is to go against God’s will—to sin. By doing that you also transgress the law—you sin.
Most believers do not even know what it means to fear God! Luke 12:4-5.
In the fear of God we depart from evil by loving God so deeply that we will not do this great evil—not in any way—of sinning against God, or even displeasing Him in any way whatsoever. This was (by way of example) Joseph’s attitude. What a glorious example he was!
Sin and death belong together. Victory over sin and life belong together; they are inseparable. He who lives according to his lusts is dead while he is living. He who denies his sinful lusts, lives. He has the right understanding of life.
In the final analysis it is our attitude to sin, the importance we attach to it, how dangerous or how crucial we view it, and how much, or how little, or how very much we strive to be rid of it, how quickly or how slowly we had thought to put it off, or how thoroughly or how superficially we do it, which is of decisive significance! The result is measured by the effort. For those few who have some spiritual understanding this is quite plain to see and experience all over at all times and throughout all generations.
This is part of God’s perfect righteousness.
Read and meditate on those approximately five hundred scripture references.
