Limitless Love
Divine love knows no limits. It is limitless. It bears everything and everyone. Human love, on the other hand, is very limited. It usually does not take very much before the limit is reached and exceeded. People bear a little bit and perhaps a little bit more before they give in or fail altogether.
There is a common expression which is very significant: “There is a limit; that is enough.” Yes, there is a limit to all sorts of things except to God’s and Christ’s love.
The power of this divine love is exceedingly great. There are no limits to what it can accomplish in the spiritual realm. For example, in this love we not only continue to love someone who treats us very badly, but as Paul writes, we love them more and more the worse they get!!! “I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved” 2 Cor. 12:15.
In the French Bible translation, we find this expression: “extreme love.” This extends far beyond all the commonly recognized boundaries. It is our calling to obtain this all-accomplishing love as our rightful inheritance and everlasting possession here during the time of our pilgrimage.
Then we will love all the time and cannot do anything else! Then we live as His children, who is Love.
