The Wife of the Lamb
Jesus Christ, the blameless and spotless Lamb of God, and His bride, the wife of the Lamb! 1 Pet. 1:19; Rev. 19:7; 21:9.
It is especially noteworthy that Jesus is called a Lamb, and just as noteworthy that His bride is called the wife of the Lamb. There are many kinds of animals in this world, but sheep and lambs possess certain unusual characteristics, with corresponding facial expressions.
“Like a lamb silent before its shearer . . . .” Acts 8:32. If you ever have the opportunity to look at sheep and lambs, take your time to look at them and reflect on what you have seen. Consider them, and look at their eyes! Their eyes shine with simplicity and innocence. When they are being shorn, or when they are standing in a flock waiting to be slaughtered, they are a radiant example of patience, rest, and quietness, absolutely free from having evil thoughts, without any signs of dissatisfaction whatsoever.
Paul exhorts us to watch (consider) the dogs (when they bark). There we see the complete opposite of lambs, which does not make it difficult for us to realize which of these two animals a sinful person resembles most!?
When people pick on each other, upbraid each other, or criticize someone, when they are quick-tempered or angry, grumpy or dissatisfied, they truly resemble a barking dog much more than a lamb! What a shame!
We can learn from the example in Leviticus 19:19, that it was forbidden to pair two unlike animals, for example, a dog and a lamb. Other mixtures were also forbidden! This is very instructive for us in the new covenant.
It would be extremely unfitting and senseless for the wife of the Lamb to exhibit signs of a dog nature. So it is vitally important for you to get rid of all remnants of the dog nature and billygoat nature (mulish stubbornness) by a living faith and by obedience to the faith—if you want to partake of the bridal calling!
In this context these words are also fitting: “God is a God of order.” He separates the sheep from the goats.
