Bless and Do Not Curse!
“Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Pet. 3:9.
Our heavenly calling is quite simply to bless; then we will be blessed and will inherit a blessing. We can rightly say that the glad and good tidings is a question of blessing; in other words, to be thoroughly saved and transformed to the point where we are incredibly far from all overflow of wickedness and everything that is evil! Jas. 1:21.
The vast majority of converted people do not have the slightest amount of faith in something so holy, so pure and good, so noble, and so blessed in spite of all the glorious and true words of Scripture concerning our heavenly calling.
Meditate on the approximately one hundred and fifty Scripture references concerning our glorious calling! They clearly bring out that there are those who will be blessed because they have believed, or obeyed, or have been faithful, enduring, or self-sacrificing in serving others, etc.; in other words, because they are worthy of it—in God’s eyes!
Then there are those who are to be blessed for an entirely different reason, which is always the same; namely, as a help to show them that we are not against them because things are not going so well with them in one or in several ways, in harmony with this word: “For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” Matt. 5:44-48.
We are to be like God. He guides the sun and the rain. We cannot do that, of course, so for us it must necessarily mean that we are to let our spiritual sunshine shine over one and all, and that the showers of blessings should proceed from us—also over those who have not deserved it, in hopes that it might help them.
We need to partake of a thorough and total salvation to be able to live like that. “The generous soul will be made rich . . . .” Prov. 11:25. This is a simple, straightforward, and fundamental word for our entire conduct in life. Let this word be our life’s motto!
“Being reviled, we bless . . . .” 1 Cor. 4:12. A great transformation has taken place in our inner man if this has become our new nature! “But on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this . . . .” 1 Pet. 3:9.
“Satisfied with favor, and full of the blessing of the Lord . . . .” Deut. 33:23. “A faithful man will abound with blessings . . . .” Prov. 28:20. “There shall be showers of blessing.” Ezek. 34:26.
“He who sows with blessing will also reap blessing.” 2 Cor. 9:6. Therefore: Disperse blessings! Serving Him and blessing in His name is unquestionably our high and heavenly calling!
The Lord be greatly praised because He loves us so unspeakably much that He desires to transform any poor fellow, so that he can live such a blessed life.
