Are You Active in God’s Work?

Many people run hither and thither to see where God is working, and that is where they want to be active. One organization is striving to outdo the other to make it appear as if God is working where they are.

“Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’” Luke 9:23.

The only way in which you can be active in God’s work is by denying yourself daily. Then you are following Jesus—and then you can be sure you are where God is working. Then you will not be outside God’s work, but you will be outside all religious clamor.

The shepherds in the field were not outside God’s work, but the high priest and the religious establishment in Jerusalem were. David, tending a few sheep, was not outside God’s work, but his brothers who passed before Samuel one after the other, were.

God’s work is not what goes on before the eyes of the people, because God always puts a cover of reproach over His work so that the proud spirits will not understand it. Isa. 4:5.

It is not certain that the one who conducts meetings is active in God’s work, or those who are called elders, or those who sit on committees. But the one who denies himself daily and purifies himself as He is pure is most certainly active in God’s work—though he might live in an out-of-the-way place, all by himself.
