The Cross

No one can even come close to describing the effects of the cross. Jesus atoned for the sins of the entire world on the cross. Down through the ages millions of Christians have praised Jesus for His atoning death. However, in the midst of praising Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins, most of them are ruled by the spirit that proceeds from the prince of this world, the one whom Jesus conquered on the cross.

There never has been as much in-fighting in the religious world as there is in our day. Large denominations and many religious groups are fighting against each other and among themselves. By doing that, they in fact despise the cross and Jesus’ precious blood with which He has redeemed us from our aimless conduct that we have inherited from our fathers. 1 Pet. 1:18-19.

“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.” Rom. 8:12. The evil inclinations in our flesh shall no longer rule over us.

James writes that all wars and fights come from the lusts that wage war in our members. Whenever this happens, it is because one does not make use of the power of the cross to silence the fighting. Those who do not make use of the cross are not part of the body of Christ.

“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Gal. 5:24. Jesus called only the peacemakers the sons of God. Matt. 5:9.

On the cross Jesus triumphed over principalities and powers and the realm of Satan. Col. 2:15. By having a living faith in this, Jesus’ victory will be our victory.

It was Jesus’ desire that the disciples should follow Him in this life of victory in all kinds of situations by taking up their cross daily.

Christ lived in Paul because Paul’s “I” was on the cross. When all our egos are on the cross, where they belong, the result will be genuine brotherhood, peace, growth, and glory.
