The Crucial Moment

That is the very moment when you are tempted. Then you have to go on the offensive. If you haven’t made that decision in advance, carrying it out immediately, you will usually give in and fall in temptation. The tempter is Satan himself. We don’t have to listen to him for more than a few seconds before we strike—before we put up a desperate resistance, before we fire the entire broadside, before we fire all the canons we have acquired in advance. We prepare for war in peacetime, or else we will be taken unawares and defeated. We deserve to fall if we do not do our utmost to overcome. The powerful statement that Jesus made in Matthew 5:29 and 30 tells us with irrefutable clarity that we ought to do our utmost to avoid sinning!!! What we first of all and most of all should arm ourselves with is God’s Word—all the words of life—so that we are filled with all these words and have His words abiding in us. We in the Word, and the Word in us!!! Most believers are simply too lazy and apathetic and slow and are by far not sufficiently interested in being thoroughly saved from all kinds of sins in every possible area! According to Jesus’ own words, they are not worthy of Him! In Matthew 10:37 and 38 it is written, “Is not worthy of Me” three times in a row. Only wholehearted, boiling hot, avidly interested, diligent people enter God’s kingdom. May there be many in these days who wake up and are radically converted and make a desperate effort!
