The Nature of Faith and Its Manifestations
Because faith is the only thing that matters, that is, the only way we can acquire the things that have been promised us after the conditions have been fulfilled, it must therefore be of the utmost importance to know what are the characteristics and nature of faith. God’s Word—the words of life—is unquestionably true, and because of that, the very nature of faith is fully convinced that we will receive it, that it will be like that, that it will become a fact, a reality: it will happen because the condition has been fulfilled.
The one fact creates another fact! Faith is something firm and definitive; it is something unshakable, something completely separate from the slightest hint of doubt.
Believing has nothing to do with wishing, or with any attempt at doing something. There is nothing uncertain or insecure in its nature. What I believe is either God’s clear Word and that it is true, or it is not God’s Word and is therefore not true and should not be believed. The only foundation for faith is that it is true; and if it is true, it is meaningless not to believe it. The manifestations or the effects of faith are always the same; namely, it happens that I receive it, that it becomes like that, and that it is revealed as a fact to the honor and praise of God and for the benefit of people.
Examples: He who humbles himself—the very thing that Jesus did—will be exalted! He will be exalted just as truly as God lives, whether he wants to or not! What he is exalted to is an overcoming life, a divine life! When this happens, we also know that the person has humbled himself voluntarily. It is one of the main laws of life! God guides everything and everyone in harmony with this law!
He who exalts himself will be inexorably humbled. God makes sure of that. Israel’s history, world history, and the history of the church confirm this powerfully. A man exalts himself before his downfall. Pride comes before the fall. God gives grace to the degree that a person is humble. This happens in a precise and just manner!
“Give and it will be given to you.” This is also one of the main laws of life; it is not a pleasant, insignificant matter as most people think. They are committing a grave error! Be quick to correct this matter if you are one of the many who have committed this critical mistake!
