The New Commandment That Jesus Gave Us

John 13:34

The old law about love was: Love your neighbor as yourself. These were very strong words. How many people have received grace to live like that? The majority of so-called Christians are unbelievably far from living such a life. They think that it is impossible for anyone to live like that in this world.

However, Jesus came with a light that was even much stronger: He came with a completely new commandment about laying hold of an even greater love!!

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” How much has He loved us? That is quite a question. As far as I am concerned, I would answer like this: He loved us so much that it is overwhelming.

According to this answer, the new commandment is to love one another so much and so deeply that it is beyond comprehension! Without limits! Utterly superhuman! It is far beyond all human imagination!

Almost every person under the sun thinks that this is impossible. However, Jesus is of a different opinion. “With God all things are possible.” And, “All things are possible to him who believes.” And, “As you have believed, so let it be done for you.” Matt. 19:26; Mark 9:23; Matt. 8:13.

Therefore, this is the true, heavenly, and high and holy calling of Jesus’ disciples: that we love one another as much and as deeply as Jesus loved us through His deeds and through His work! If we do that, then love in our hearts is boiling hot, as it is written in the French Bible in Revelation 3:15 and 20, and in Psalm 45:2. May it be so!
