Who Can Harm You?

1 Peter 3:9-14

“Not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.”

“And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good?”

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Rom. 12:21.

We see that people, through their malice, give me an opportunity to be good and not become malicious myself. On the contrary, it will turn out for my good if I use the opportunity to bless. Thus I gather for myself treasures in heaven. I increase my inheritance, which is a blessing.

The only way in which they can harm me is if they can get me to be evil. Then I, through their conduct, have been overcome by evil. However, as long as I overcome evil with good, I have gained a marvelous victory. Then it has served me for my good. Rom. 8:28.

“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good . . . .” Gen. 50:20. This was Joseph’s experience because he did the good. “Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.” 1 Pet. 4:19. We cannot, in such an instance, use our human senses, for we live by faith and leave it up to God who judges righteously to requite the evil. 1 Pet. 2:23; Rom. 12:19-20. It is our business to do the good.
