Slander Is One of the Very Worst Sins

In spite of the fact that it is incredibly serious, it is, nevertheless, one of the most common sins, not only among unconverted people, but also—and this is very unfortunate—among confessing Christians!!! Of course, there is no excuse for it whatsoever since the words of Scripture concerning this matter are just as plain as they are strong, and just as strong as they are plain! Thoughtfully read everything in the Bible concordance under “slandering” [backbiting], “slander,” and “slanderers”!

Countless people are in such darkness and ignorance that they don’t even know what slander is! This is almost unbelievable, and yet it is a fact! People excuse themselves by saying that it is true, which is highly doubtful! However, it has absolutely nothing to do with this matter! Whether it is the truth or a lie is a totally different matter! The principal madness is that you speak to others about it, instead of going directly to the person you are slandering in order to hear what he or she has to say about it and perhaps help that individual! Obviously, you would gladly help the person you love instead of harming him!

Madness #2 is that the person to whom he or she comes with a disparagement does not instantly stop that individual, refusing to listen to it, referring him or her to the person who has been slandered and forbidding the individual to come again with that kind of thing!

I want to exhort everyone to act in this manner! By so doing, you become a fellow worker in eradicating one of the very worst evils!

It absolutely does not happen that you slander a person you uprightly love with all of your heart, sincerely, and unfeigned! Therefore this principal madness and madness #2 have their real origin in an abysmal lack of godly love! And then such a person is a big zero; that is, he is finished!

Jesus’ words are very simple and certainly true: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15.

The conclusion to be drawn is obvious, without having to exert any great effort!
