Priests

Ever since the work of Jesus Christ was finished there is talk of only one kind of priest, which is what all those in the church who are being saved and transformed are to be in spirit and in truth. However, in the churches of the living God no one assumes that title, or has that title.

It is unmistakably and clearly stated in 1 Peter 2:5 and 9 as to who is called to be a true priest. “You also . . . are being built up . . . a holy priesthood . . . .” Peter writes this to the entire church, to all true disciples and members of the body of Christ. They are being built up to it; they are being saved to it!

There is nothing in the New Testament called studying theology or going to so-called Bible schools in order to be educated or trained to be a priest or a preacher. All such things are human inventions and the work of man, which actually cause more harm than good! These things are completely unbiblical!

We are saved to become priests in spirit and in truth—not to be called a priest but rather to be one—by none other than God Himself. And the result is holy priests, people who live a new, holy life as it is written!

In verse 9 it is absolutely clear what these priests must essentially proclaim: “That you may proclaim the virtues of Him . . . .” which are also found in their own life, because they have become holy as He is holy. 1 Pet. 1:15-16.

This is in perfect agreement with what Peter writes in 2 Peter 1:5-15. While we are in this world, we are being saved and transformed as we partake of His virtues. It is these virtues that are to be proclaimed so that those who hear can receive light over them, believe in them, partake of them, and increasingly proclaim them!

Almost the entire religious world is blind to our heavenly calling. Even if they hear or read anything about it, most of them definitely do not believe it, and, in addition, they are even bitter opponents of it! How ironic! They are adversaries of the glorious work that God so gladly desires to do among them. Alas! Alas!

By believing the words of the New Testament, by living them and proclaiming them, churches of the living God arise where people can love each other sincerely from the heart, becoming one with each other as Jesus says in John 17, and as Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 1:10. Glory to God in the highest! Think that He loves us so much that He desires to do such glorious things in our midst!

Your deeply thankful—
