“Delight Yourself Also in the Lord . . .
and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Ps. 37:4.
Why does God appreciate it so immensely that we rejoice—or delight ourselves—in Him, that He rewards us by giving us all the desires of our heart? Isn’t that remarkable? Actually not, because this great joy cannot have any other source than a full assurance that we will receive what we desire and pray for, or, in other words, it comes from a living faith that it will become reality!
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various temptations.” Jas. 1:2. This means, in other words: All joy when we come into various difficulties! Every difficulty creates corresponding temptations. It would be pointless to count it all joy in temptations if I considered it a possibility or a probability that I could fall in what I was being tempted to. It is impossible to count it all joy when I come into difficulties without being fully assured that I will gain the victory every time. Then I have truly something to rejoice over! You cannot, in the name of all that is reasonable, protest against that! Only then can you obey Paul’s exhortation, “Rejoice always!” 1 Thess. 5:16 and Phil. 4:4. Otherwise it is impossible! We are called to have fullness of joy! John 15:11.
