“For Every Tree Is Known By Its Own Fruit.”
This is one of the simplest and most striking truths that Jesus Himself spoke; it just cannot be contradicted! A good tree does not bear bad (or rotten—old Norw. Tr.) fruit! All sin is rotten fruit! An excellent example of such rottenness is mentioned in verse 37: judging others instead of judging yourself! It is exactly the same as criticizing others, which is a more modern expression for the same thing. In God’s light these fruits are unmistakable evidence of a rotten, or bad, tree. The end result of such an evil habit can be that a person has judged or criticized so terribly much that precisely for this reason, he has condemned himself!
Romans 2:1. Slander is also rottenness, or evil; it is clear evidence that the tree is bad. Jesus says that such a tree cannot bear good fruit. The endearing apostle of love and truth, John, was the sternest of all of them. The most serious words we have concerning this subject are the following: “He who sins is of the devil . . . .” 1 John 3:8. Unfortunately, the majority pf people are extremely superficial; they are not serious about taking God’s Word to heart, they are in a sleep! This is where this Word applies: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” Eph. 5:14.
Let it be so! Amen.
