He Cannot Do Otherwise

Romans 8:32

Imagine if He could have done something else??? Not at all! That is impossible! He cannot do anything else—than what?

ā€œHe who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?ā€ He gave the greatest, most precious, and dearest possession in order to save us, in order to win us. Then it is obvious that He gives us all things with Him!

We can extract very much from this thought: ā€œHow shall He not . . . !ā€ It is tremendously faith-strengthening!

God does everything that pleases Him, in heaven and on earth, according to His omnipotence and His wisdom. Because He is absolutely perfect in love and goodness, it is completely impossible for Him to do anything other than guide and lead each single thing for our very best. This is what He is wholly and keenly interested in; namely, that we, as much as possible, shall be re-created and transformed in our inner man, that the Son, the Son of Man Jesus Christ, our glorious Redeemer, shall have a glorious bride! He cannot do other than work intensely at it! This is precisely why He awakens us over and over again.

We may take it easy, but He cannot!!! We can fall when we are tempted, but we never need to do that. Moreover, He cannot let us be tempted above what we are able to bear. He watches faithfully over us so that something like that never happens! 1 Cor. 10:13.

We never need to fail; but it can happen, unfortunately. He, on the other hand, cannot fail! He cannot do otherwise than give grace to the humble! How could He neglect that? He ensures just as faithfully and vigilantly that the proud, arrogant, self-assured, puffed up and conceited people are resisted instead of receiving grace.

How could He act differently? Arrogance is the worst of all in His eyes, just as humility is the dearest and therefore, for us, the most rewarding.
