Hear Him!
“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’” Matt. 17:5.
What Jesus was saying was of such importance that the Almighty God called from heaven and said, “Hear Him!” Who considers what Jesus has said just as important for himself?
Now we are going to relate something Jesus said six days before the Father Himself urged the disciples to hear Him: “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.’” Ch. 16:24.
In other words, it is useless to try and follow Him in any other way. If we are to come where He is, then we must follow Him. We cannot come to where He is unless we follow Him. Thousands of people would like to come to where He is. They travel to Israel to visit the places where He went and where He spoke His messages, but what help is in that? All it can do is give you a few feelings that nourish the soul. This is instead of you following Him who poured out His soul. Isa. 53:12.
Hear what Jesus says: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Paul considered this of such importance that he said, “But God forbid that I should glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Gal. 6:14. The cross of Jesus Christ has some powerful effects. Has this cross become your cross? Do you take up this cross daily? As the Son of man, Jesus knew what was in man. John 2:25. He knew that we had to deny ourselves “daily” if we are to follow Him in the life He lived and come to where He is. Rev. 3:21.
He says further: “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matt. 16:25.
These are very important words. You cannot find life, Jesus’ life, without losing your own. Paul also confirms this and adds: “This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him.” 2 Tim. 2:11. There is no other way. No matter how people explain it to make the way easier or broader, the result will be only deception.
When we think of all the other things Jesus has said, they are just as important. They are just as important as far as you are concerned. The Father’s voice from heaven includes everything Jesus has said. “Hear Him!” That is our salvation and happiness.
