“In Spite of This, They Still Sinned . . . .”
What a significant sentence! This psalm is not called “Contemplation” for nothing! What was “this”? It was all of God’s goodness, His good deeds and great miracles! The intention was that all this, all of God’s goodness toward them, should have led them to repentance; it should have led them to fear and to love God in such measure that they did not continue to sin against Him. But unfortunately, in spite of all this, they still to sin.
This was during the time of the old covenant. But what about “believers” in these days, during the time of the new covenant? Now, we have abundantly more opportunities, and help, to cease from sin!!! Alas! As far as most people are concerned, it is just as bad now, during the time of the new covenant, as it was at that time in Israel.
Even in the midst of the church of the living God where they have all heard God’s Word clearly and thoroughly, and where they have seen brothers walk faithfully and blamelessly, and where they also, as a dire warning, have seen how badly it can go with those who have gone astray, there are still some people who continue to sin! May God have mercy on each and every one!
This is absolutely God’s will! May it also be every individual’s absolute will at any cost!
May all such people regret it now, so they can avoid having to regret it in the end!
