Today
“This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps. 118:24.
Yes, let us do that, and let us believe that He who loves us and cares for us arranges everything for this day—today—that can serve for our best and eternal advantage. Let us put a circle around the day today. Many people are bothered by things they have previously said or done—things they cannot change and that God has cast into the sea of forgetfulness. They can also worry about things that might happen tomorrow or sometime in the future. By doing that they miss out on gaining precious victories they should have had today. Our strength is little if we are discouraged on the day of tribulation. Then we will have neither strength to overcome nor the joy of an overcomer.
Jesus says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matt. 6:34.
Let us lift up our hands to Christ today and receive grace and power for the abundant life that we are called to live. God’s grace is new every morning, and no temptation is too strong for us. 1 Cor. 10:13. The laws of the Spirit of life that Christ writes on our hearts today are exceedingly precious.
The day “Today” can also be one of the evil days when spiritual hosts of wickedness assault us and cast their fiery darts at us. Then it is vital to take up the whole armor of God so that we can withstand on the evil day, and having overcome completely, to stand. Eph. 6:13.
The church in Smyrna was to have ten days of tribulation. God knew this, and He prepared all grace and help in such a way that they could be rewarded with the crown of life. Rev. 2:10.
“Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” Heb. 4:7. We are to enter God’s rest today. Today we are to exercise ourselves in the virtues of Christ and do what we have heard and learned. We do not know if we will live tomorrow.
“But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.” Ps. 59:16.
