“Now You Are the Body of Christ, and Members Individually.”
“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ?” 1 Cor. 6:15. This is a very valid question! How many people have actually known this or believed it and practiced it?
It is an unspeakably great and glorious and thoroughly radical truth that can only be comprehended by faith and certainly not by human reasoning. Christ is the head of this body, and we as His disciples make up the rest of His body individually, according to our allotted portion.
Christ, who is the head, was raised from the dead and is in heaven while the rest of the body is on earth for a short time just like Jesus was, some at a time.
Actively believing that every one of us individually is a part of Christ produces in us the mighty power of the fear of God of the highest degree so as to keep us far, far away from committing any kind of conscious sin.
If you commit sin—even if you actually are a member of His body—you are out of action. Then you are not in Christ. Of course not! Because then it would be as if Christ had sinned, and something like that is simply impossible.
We find this train of thought in 1 Corinthians 6:15. If someone who is a member of the body of Christ should fall in adultery (for example), we have let a member of the body of Christ commit adultery! What a horrible thought! How disgusting!
Of course it is not Christ who has sinned, because that person was certainly not in Christ (not active as a member of His body) when he sinned. How meaningless it is to be in and out of Christ.
This also applies to all other kinds of sin. It is meaningless, even scandalous, to be angry or irritated or feel insulted or be dissatisfied, or to slander or lie or argue or be anxious for anything at all, when you consider yourself to be a member of the body of Christ!
But who has believed that he is a member of His body in deadly earnest? Who has understood it like this and conducted himself as such a member??? Nevertheless, it is better late than never!
Living faith in this tremendous truth will have the most powerful effect! By it you depart very far from committing sin! The Lord be highly praised!!!
