Perfect Unity=Harmony
Become one as the Father and the Son are one. John 17:21-23. This means that (for example) there is not, under any circumstance whatsoever, a single grating sound. This is how each single member of the body is molded so that the body of Christ becomes one harmonious whole.
How indescribably far from this oneness we all were in the beginning. This heavenly life is so exalted and so glorious that the percentage of those who want to believe that something like this is possible is very small, in spite of Jesus’ word that all things are possible with God, and to him who believes. Luke 18:24; Mark 9:23.
You cannot attain to such a life as an assembly, but only individually. And these relatively few who attain to it will constitute the body of Christ.
This is in complete harmony with the extremely strong and glorious words in 1 John 1:7. Yet how many people have actually believed these words: “Walk in the light as He is in the light”? Usually, people are so blinded by unbelief that they cannot even read what is written. Who has really seen that it is written, “As He is in the light”? He is certainly not just partly in the light or mostly in the light?
However, those few who are now actually receiving grace to walk in the light as He is in the light do not have “church” fellowship but life-fellowship; that is, harmonious fellowship with each other. They obviously do not commit sin—that is, conscious sin.
And when it says further in the same verse, “And the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin,” this must necessarily mean from all unconscious sin as we receive light over it. This signifies sanctification, or in other words, growth and increase in all the virtues of Christ so that we grow up to the full maturity of manhood in Christ Jesus.
This process continues, as it is written in Ephesians 5:27: “That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
The almost unimaginably great and wonderfully glorious thing is that it is really possible to walk in the light to this extent in this evil world. Think long and hard about it: as Christ Himself now is in the light!
The apostle John says that once it has become like this, do we have life-fellowship with each other. Otherwise it is and remains merely a so-called fellowship, and there are plenty of those.
The least sin is sufficient to exclude or hinder this exalted fellowship which, unfortunately, is unknown to the majority of people. Some critical or harsh words (for example) are more than enough to scar this sincere and good and divine fellowship.
Most believers do not show the least indication of believing in anything divine. They can even bring themselves to judge, yes, even to condemn those who believe in it and are noticeable partakers of it. What a hardening!!!
Nevertheless—God be praised!—all their unbelief cannot change this truth and this fact. God does not ask for their permission to finish His work in those who believe. The Lord be highly praised!!
By being faithful without interruption, it is possible to walk in the light as He is in the light. However, most people lack this attitude of mind. Alas! Alas! Yet, it is possible to lay hold of such a mindset, for God is exceedingly merciful and longsuffering.
