The Similarities Between the Drunkard, the Glutton, and the Chatterbox
All three are self-indulgent. None of them abstain or are restrained. None of them possess wisdom. On the contrary, all three commit great foolishness every day instead of denying themselves and their idols.
The following exhortation is applicable to all three of them: “Awake in earnest, and do not sin . . . .” 1 Cor. 15:34.
None of them will enter the kingdom of God. Gal. 5:21. (Instead of “drunkenness and revelries,” the French translation reads, “excess at the table.”) Then it is written that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Jas. 1:26. “Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly . . . .” Phil. 3:19. “And those who are Christ’s, have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Gal. 5:24. All three have this sad fact in common that they have not done this, and therefore Paul writes in Philippians 3:18 that many walk as the enemies of the cross of Christ because they will definitely not crucify their passions and desires. However, it is better late than never.
Make sure now that you deal with this matter immediately. Otherwise it can be too late.
Yours, sincerely grieving—
