Preach the Word!!!

2 Timothy 4:1-5

This is surely one of the strongest encouragements in the Bible! The first verse reminds us of a strong oath! In French it is written, “I adjure you . . . by Him who will judge the living and the dead . . . .”

What is it that is of such vital importance? It is precisely this: to preach the Word—not once in a while, not moderately, not when it is convenient, not out of consideration for this or that person or this or that situation, but in season and out of season, whether it is convenient or inconvenient! In French it says, “Insist on this at every opportunity,” that is, hold fast to it, keep it going, and be urgent! Why? Because it is a matter of life and death! All God’s Word and all God’s will are very exact. Away with all other considerations. All of us will be judged correctly and thoroughly. This applies to both preachers and listeners— especially preachers. Convince, rebuke, exhort!

It says, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine . . . .” So it is important to be hard at work in good time! Yes, work powerfully and diligently, before the night comes. Besides, an immensely arduous labor is particularly necessary for the sake of those who desire to hear the sound doctrine, for it is a true fact that people are slow to believe and slow to act.

All of us need all the encouragement we can get.

This scripture is an exceptionally good opportunity to sense the extreme, flaming love that was burning in the apostle Paul’s inner man.

Using this benchmark, there is woefully little to be measured in most people’s lives.

May this reflection contribute much help in this respect!
