Falling From Your Own Steadfastness
What a peculiar expression: our own steadfastness. In German it says, “your own firmness.” What is this personal firm stance of ours, our firm place, our safe habitation, our own solid fortress?!! It is: being crucified with Christ, firmly attached to the cross in and through Christ.
By nails of faith, which are strong and reliable, we are firmly fastened to the cross. That is our firm stand, our fortress! Hallelujah!
There we overcome, we always overcome—there we are more than conquerors. If we come down from the cross, we put on the old man again, risking just about anything. Then we are in darkness, not knowing what we can fall in or what we can be deceived by. Then there is no longer anything that is firm, and everything is in a state of confusion. You never know what such unrestrained people are up to! The most unimaginable things can happen. I, and many with me, have plenty of experience in this. Consider this!!!
Therefore, beloved friends, let us fear so that we do not fall out of our own steadfastness, that we do not move one single step outside our own strong fortress!
Your devoted—
