A Glaring Lack of Deadly Seriousness!

Therefore there is unbelievably much sin, which also accounts for the fact that there are very many people who never gain the victory over all conscious sin!

That His fear may be before you, so [to such an extent] that you may not sin.” Ex. 20:20.

Because of harlotry—all this common, faithless, false, superficial, lawless preaching that has filled all of so-called Christendom—the fear to sin, the fear of going against God has by and large been eradicated! God’s true grace has been completely distorted to the extent that most “believing” people misunderstand its main purpose (which is, to cease committing conscious sin), thinking that it is not that dangerous to sin because God is so gracious that He will naturally forgive them endlessly because they believe in the atonement.

This harlotry has had such a pervasive effect that even brothers and sisters, in spite of hearing God’s Word in spirit and truth year round and who have taken a stand against harlotry, are still defiled by it.

For the wages of sin is death . . . .Rom. 6:23. This was not only the case in the old covenant because these words are spoken in the new covenant! Imagine if everyone had taken these words in deadly earnest—that they deserved death when they sinned!? Then, fairly soon, there would be an end of committing sin. However, how many people have actually viewed it with such deadly seriousness??? It is also completely erroneous to imagine that you receive forgiveness for your sin as a matter of course! The clear and obvious implication is that you are saddened, even deeply distraught unto death, and that you take this stand in deadly earnest never to sin again, at the same time forgiving everyone else from the heart (not just with the mouth) who has sinned against you.

It is quite simply impertinent and presumptuous to claim forgiveness of sins while you are not all that careful whether you sin again or not!

Therefore it says so significantly and so unmistakably: “Awake to seriousness, and do not sin . . . .” 1 Cor. 15:34. French translation: “Do not sin at all!

Unfortunately, there are very few who are that seriously minded not to sin at all as long as they live.

We have an especially serious word in 1 Timothy 5:6: “But she [he] who lives in pleasure is dead while she [he] lives.” In other words, the person is a living corpse! We have a literal expression for this in Isaiah 26:19: “Your dead shall live; together with my dead body they shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust . . . .”

May this be true across the board, in every church, that all these confessing Christians (God’s children who live according to their lusts and who are therefore in God’s eyes dead while they live—they are living corpses) live in such a way that these dead bodies may truly arise and come alive so that they no longer sin at all!!! Let it be so!

We have one of the most serious words in Scripture in Psalms 90:11: “Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.” This is a big question. The obvious meaning is that no one knows it fully!

This means that even the most God-fearing do not fully comprehend how mightily angry God is against all sin, and how much less are all the others aware of it!?

But God be praised! It is really possible to awake to seriousness. It is possible to arise from among the dead!

Your fellow brother, grieving over and horrified by all sin—
