The Result Is Determined by the Effort

He who will not pay for seed will not harvest either. He who does not care to cultivate the soil well will also not have an abundant harvest. He who does not pray will neither receive. He who prays little cannot expect to receive much. “Give, and it will be given to you . . . .” Luke 6:38.

Our salvation is based on the highest degree of generosity. “God so loved the world that He gave . . . .” John 3:16. Neither is there anyone else who loves or can love in any other way.

Therefore stinginess and laziness are the most God-forsaken, Spirit-forsaken things in existence that are hostile to God. They are the most powerful contrast to the love of God and of Christ.

Cash sales are an excellent thing. I have seen this sign in stores: Cash Sales Only!

The Scriptures also exhort us to purchase (for example) truth, wisdom, chastening, time, and eye salve.

We can purchase half an hour’s worth of lifetime for half an hour’s sleep

Instead of reading the headlines in the newspaper for five minutes, we can, if we so desire, purchase five minutes’ worth of reading the most glorious and precious and most life-giving truths in the Scriptures.

For ten minutes worth of chatting, we can receive ten minutes of devotion to prayer.

We can purchase friends for time and eternity with the unrighteous mammon. Luke 16:9.

By making an effort for some minutes or hours, we can come into contact, either by mail or on foot, with souls who need our assistance.

However, all this is only possible by paying cash—without exception! The “shop” is open day and night! The merchandise is always on hand! There is no waiting line!
