“Let Your ‘Yes’ Be ‘Yes,’ and Your ‘No,’ ‘No.’...
For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” Or: “What you add to this is from the evil one.” (French translation).
This relates to having to make a decision, when you are to take a stand, when you are tempted, when you must admit or acknowledge something, etc.
Unfortunately, it is quite common for brothers and sisters to transgress these simple, clear, straightforward, practical, economical, and unambiguous words.
Alas, alas! So many ifs and buts, so many antics, so many excuses and explanations and empty talk and altogether superfluous words, which are a waste of both time and energy.
What we need is a decisive and strong “Yes, Yes” to all God’s will and all God’s Word, and to everything that is just and good and beneficial, and an equally powerful and unequivocal “No, No” to everything else.
In this way it will become a simple, honest, easy, peaceful, joyful, and fruitful life!
That will put an end to all this complicated, foggy, and unpleasant business! Glory to God and to all His Word!
