“There Is No Fear of God Before Their Eyes.”
This is a fact when it concerns ungodly people. However, the big question is how much fear of God is there in the lives of those who are converted to God? Most of them do not even know what the fear of God is!
There is a very important word in 2 Timothy 3:5: “Having a form of godliness but denying its power.” They usually do not need to deny God’s power with their mouth. However, they deny the power of godliness! And what is its power? Its power is that by the fear of God, by fearing to act against His will, by fearing to displease Him, we depart from evil, we zealously resist temptations; we keep God’s commandments with all our heart so that we do not sin.
We fear to displease Him in the least; we fear to commit the smallest sin precisely because we love God with all our heart—and how much do we fear to commit greater sins!
The fear of God has by and large been eradicated from this world because of all the false grace that is being preached verbally and in print, and because of all the disrespect that is in the spirit of the times in these days.
Believers usually do not possess any fear of sinning. Preachers and leaders and authors are mostly to blame for this.
All that sin among believers is caused by a lack of the fear of God. Every sin that a converted person commits is eternal loss. If they believed this, they would automatically be on guard against the least sin.
Instead of this, believers think it is not that dangerous, for God is so immeasurably gracious and longsuffering. With the help of this false comfort, they often sin in many areas.
How good it is for all godly souls and for all those who want to become godly that we have God’s Word as a perfect guideline!!! There we find everything that pleases God and everything that does not please Him. Glory to His name!!!
In 1 Timothy 6:11 Paul exhorts one of his very best, or his absolutely very best, co-worker to pursue (zealously run after) the fear of God! Is it that terribly important? Yes, that is precisely what it is because by it we depart from evil!
In 2 Peter 3:11 Peter writes this exhortation: “Since all these things will be dissolved, how much should you then strive to be holy in conduct and in the fear of God.”1
In 1 Timothy 2:2 we read about leading “a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness [fear of God] and reverence.” What shall we say to that, brothers? “All fear of God”!!!??? Then there would be no sin of any kind!
2 Samuel 6:9: “David was filled with the fear of the Lord that day . . . .”2 Oh, that such a day might come for all of us, and soon. Preferably today!
“Serve the Lord with fear . . . .” Ps. 2:11. Fear of what? Fear of not pleasing the Lord with my ministry, fear of making some mistake or other, fear of hurting someone instead of helping him, fear of judging or discerning incorrectly. “Do not be haughty, but fear.” Rom. 11:20.
1 Timothy 5:20: “Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear.” Fear what? Fear to sin, of course! Who of you are actually truly afraid of committing the least transgression God’s will, which He has very clearly made known in the Scriptures???
God give grace to all of us and fill us with His spirit of fear. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by [proclaiming] the word of God.” Rom. 10:17. Therefore proclaim this!
