Being Disposed to . . .

There are three kinds of dispositions: spiritual dispositions, soulish or human dispositions, and demonic dispositions.

In Romans 15:14 it says in Norwegian1Full of goodness . . . .” However, in French it says, “Full of good dispositions . . . .” Instead of “dispositions” you can also say “frames of mind.” This means that you are charged with spirit and power and are flexible; that you are full of vim and vigor, full of a good desire to act, full of a desire and readiness to let good words, exhortations, and blessings flow out! There is singing and playing and constant work going on in the heart. The impulses come from within—in word and in deed.

As a result of this disposition and this good frame of mind, you are able to say and accomplish more in a short time than others get around to doing in the course of an entire year or in the course of several years.

This is what Paul prayed for on behalf of the church in Thessalonica; namely, that God would mightily fill them with all desire for the good, and work of faith.2 2 Thess. 1:11.

And to the church in Ephesus he writes this exhortation: “Be filled with the Spirit [to such an extent that], speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs [the most joyful songs of all], singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord . . . giving thanks always . . . submitting to one another . . . .” Eph. 5:18-21. This is what it means to have a spiritual disposition.

Then you are anointed, filled, flexible, agile, and therefore well equipped to speak good words and perform good deeds. This is God’s will and our heavenly calling! Glory to God! Then you joyfully disperse all that you have available.

If you want to, you can also express this spiritual disposition by the term “being in good form,” such as athletes are who are full of vim and vigor, ready to run in races. We can also compare this to an instrument that is well tuned and can therefore make nice sounds!!!

I wish that the church would be filled with such brothers and sisters!!!
