“And They Do Not Rest Day or Night, Saying: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty . . . .’”

“And They Do Not Rest Day or Night, Saying: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty . . . .’”

Revelation 4:8

What does this tell us? It tells us that they said this without ceasing, that is, approximately ten thousand times a day!!! And what is the explanation for it? They didn’t just reel off these words as people do when they have learned something by heart. No, No, No!

The explanation is bound to be that as they looked into the length and width and breadth and depth of God’s purity and holiness, into His entire divine nature, there was neither beginning nor end of all His fullness, so that every “holy” was only a small part of His entire holiness!

When we consider the Word in 1 Peter 1:15-16, “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy,’” then we really have something to think about seriously, something to fight for, to concentrate on and in, to seek with a boiling hot heart, with an ardently resolute zeal!

Seeking such holiness as He has with slothfulness, sluggishness, superficiality, and lukewarmness cannot be anything else but still-born or entirely in vain.

It must truly be either one thing or the other! It is either the usual slothfulness, which for all practical purposes is unfruitful, or something that is far, far beyond the usual.

We must concentrate on getting to the depths of all the virtues of Christ, of all God’s holiness and purity!

May the Lord be able to give us sufficient grace to that end so that we can increasingly adore and worship the Father and the Son and constantly become more like Them. Let it be so!
