The Accuser Has Been Overcome

“Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ‘Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.’” Rev. 12:10.

It was a loud and glorious voice that proclaimed in heaven that from now on the accuser had nothing more to say for all eternity. Now the Anointed One had the power. This is the exact opposite of the dry, hard, and evil accuser. He did not leave voluntarily, either.

“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Rev. 12:7-9.

Here we find the right names for the accuser of our brethren—who can also appear in the form of an angel. He can even put on the cloak of love and righteousness. He says that “righteousness” must rule. But righteousness never proceeds from an evil and impure heart. Righteousness and truth proceed only from a pure and good heart that is perfectly cleansed from every accusation. Then one can see clearly and judge justly.

Each accusation comes from Satan, and it is absolutely vital that it is kept out of the church. In the church there is exhortation and correction, but always in goodness and godly severity. It is always given on the basis of warm brotherly love that wants only the others’ best. This also applies if it should become necessary to expel someone from the church. In such a case it is the best thing for the person concerned so that he can think about his life. It would also be the best for the entire church.

All our thoughts and our ministry must have the best for ourselves and the others as its aim. We must think about benefiting the others and serving them for edification. If we want to “get at” our brother—even if ever so little—we should know that the accuser is behind it.

If we discover that the accuser was behind something we said or did we must declare a holy war immediately and cast him out of our heart. We read these comforting words: the dragon and his angels did not prevail in their battle against Michael and his angels. If we fight a wholehearted battle against the accuser and all evil, we can rest assured that we will have all the heavenly powers on our side. We read, “Nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.” This terrible company never needs to enter the heaven of our heart again. Let us go on the attack against the accuser wherever we find him. He has no right to show himself in our midst. The Anointed One has overcome him forever.

We also shall overcome him, because we are anointed. He shall not succeed in injecting the least amount of the poison of evil and bitterness into any of us.

Before Christ overcame him, this old serpent had succeeded in deceiving the whole world; and as he achieved more and more success, he accused the brethren before God day and night. When Christ arose from the dead, He sat down at the Father’s right hand, not as an accuser, but as an intercessor. The accuser was cast down to earth. He knows his time is short, and he does everything to accuse people in their conscience and get them to accuse each other.

He is the prince of darkness and he always operates in darkness. There is much talking going on in darkness. The best brothers can be accused and condemned without mercy. Those who harbor the spirit of accusation in their hearts never get anything good out of these precious brothers’ testimonies. They always suspect ulterior motives in what these brothers say.

The spirit of accusation is characterized by unrest and discord. Those who are in this spirit are always busy insisting on their “rights.” One of Satan’s most terrible names is “the accuser of our brethren.” May we truly be in fear of being one with this awful name. If we see something in a younger or an older person’s life that should be corrected, we can speak with them in all goodness, because our fellowship with each other is in the light. Jesus also gave us a very clear guideline in Matthew 18:15-17. If we follow Jesus’ wisdom, we will spare ourselves and the others much evil.

Do not let the accuser put the idea into your head that there is no hope and no future for you. The prince of darkness always makes things appear dark. Jesus, who is light and life, always gives hope and a future to the weakest and most wretched. It will immediately become light, good, and peaceful as soon as we turn our ears and hearts to Christ in faith. The greatest and most precious promises are just for us!

Therefore, if we truly acknowledge that we have been forgiven much, we will love much, and we will therefore be able to forgive without end.
