Knowing It—Doing It
We realize that these are two different things when it concerns the natural. But when it concerns spiritual things, it is evident that the difference is not that obvious. We could say, “Is it really that important?” Yes, it is; the difference is so great that if you only know it, you can perish. Therefore doing it is an absolute necessity.
You are deceived if you are content with only knowing it, thinking it gives you a clear connection to God. We cannot receive light over all unrighteousness at once, and no unrighteousness will be corrected before we really see it as sin, depart from it, and seek God to be set free from it. God does not save us from sin unless we know it is sin, or unless we acknowledge it as such.
It is the Holy Spirit’s work to lead people into all truth by revealing the word of truth to them. “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” John 17:17.
“If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.” John 15:22. Andin another place Jesus says to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.” John 9:41. And in James 4:17 it is written, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”
Therefore no one has an excuse for continuing in the sin of which the Spirit has convicted him. The reason for not having an excuse is that when God convicts of sin, He always gives strength to overcome it.
“Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. 5:20-21.
God who points out sin also supplies the strength for immediate and lasting victory over sin to him who believes. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Rom. 8:1-2.
