The Truth Liberates

Jesus calls everyone to liberty, but not everyone understands what liberty is all about. Most so-called believers think carnally, desiring liberty for the flesh. Jesus, however, has thoughts of peace and thoughts of salvation for all people. Therefore if we are to achieve true liberty, it is necessary to think as He thinks. In John 8:32-36 it is written that some Jews believed in Jesus; but they did not understand, saying that they were Abraham’s descendants and had never been in bondage to anyone. They could not comprehend why Jesus would say, “You shall be free.” Therefore Jesus says further, “Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” This certainly applied to them, and if they had acknowledged the truth of the fact that they were in bondage to sin, they would have partaken of the truth and been set free. But they acknowledged nothing and held on to their own opinion. What folly! They judged Jesus without listening to His message. He was the truth and wanted to help them out of sin’s bondage, but they could not bear to hear His words, justifying themselves.

Loving the truth sets a person free—free from lying and all delusions and false hopes. There is no true salvation without loving the truth. All lies are from the devil, and his work is all about lying and untruths.

Antichrist, who is also called the lawless one, will be revealed. His coming will be “according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie.” 2 Thess. 2:9-11. All salvation was excluded when they believed the lie. If they had believed and loved the truth about themselves, for example, they could have avoided this terrible fate.

You, who are reading this, are you one of the slaves of sin? If so, acknowledge it, and Jesus will liberate you. Acknowledgment is necessary for the truth to come forth; then there will be liberation and salvation that no one will regret. Do not let God’s grace be in vain for you. The slave will not remain in the house forever. You can excuse yourself and say you are not guilty until the very moment when God sends powerful delusions and you believe the lie. “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36.

The Spirit of truth, whom God has sent in order to lead us into all truth, has much to say to us. May He find only listening ears! May the fate of the foolish virgins be a warning to us!

Are you bearing a grudge against someone who was bad to you? Then you are not walking in the love of Christ; you are committing sin. Perhaps you are also bearing a grudge against someone who is good to you; then you are even further away from the way of life. There is no salvation without acknowledging the truth, because acknowledging what is true frees you from continuing in sin. Then you are on the way of salvation.
