“You Strong Heroes . . .
who do His commandment . . . you ministers of His, who do His will.” Ps. 103:20-21.
“Mighty is the army that carries out His order.” Joel 2:11.1 Why does it take such an unusual amount of strength and power to carry out God’s will, to execute His orders? Is it so difficult? That is precisely what it is! Is every person that weak? Yes, he is pitifully weak!
Most people do not even have such a noble desire as to seek the tremendous power that is absolutely necessary for such a worm of a man to be able to carry out God’s will. For God’s will is strongly opposed among people, even among converted people.
People are so used to giving in to almost anything for the sake of gain, for the sake of honor, to remain on good terms with the many, for the sake of thousands of considerations of all kinds! They fail. They fail quickly in both great and small.
For this very reason a person is a hero, even a strong hero as the Word says, if he executes God’s will and order without taking the will of man into account. See Galatians 1:10.
It is appropriate to consider what the Word says instead of what people think, feel, and want. This is precisely why we need heroic strength. God gladly gives this great strength to wholehearted brothers and sisters. Glory to God!
In former days, God sought for some who would stand in the gap, some who had courage and strength to do it. However, He found no one. How significant!!!
“Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Eph. 6:10. This is written in command form! In other words, it is forbidden to be weak. It is also completely unnecessary because God Himself gladly gives great strength to wholehearted people.
Are you very strong in the Lord, brother? If not, then make sure that you become strong! “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal [Dutch: perfect] to Him.” 2 Chron. 16:9. Therefore there is not a single soul like that who is not powerfully strengthened!!!
All those who continue to lack power also continue to have a divided heart.
In Proverbs 31:25 it is written, “Strength and honor are her [the bride’s] clothing . . . .” And our calling is to be the bride of Jesus Christ!
However, there is also something that is called being strong (obstinate and stubborn) in yourself.
We can make the following three-part division:
1. Strong in yourself and weak in Him—a dangerous state to be in.
2. Weak in yourself and weak in Him—only misery.
3. Weak in yourself, but strong in Him—this is pleasing to God; it is perfect.
In Psalm 92:10 it is written, “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox . . . .” And in Micah 3:8 it is written, “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of justice and might, to testify about . . . transgression, and about sin.”2 Indeed, love and truth and righteousness as well as everything that is holy are required in order to rebuke God’s people for their sin and ungodliness, especially when their leaders need to be rebuked. It is a great shame one does not have the strength and courage to do that.
Moreover, this saying is noteworthy: “He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.” Another saying is: “The pot calling the kettle black.”
God’s power and courage presupposes wholeheartedness, purity, and holiness. Therefore it is not written, “In spiritual power,” but “In the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Rightly understood, it is a sin and a shame to be weak in the Lord! Why? Because it is absolutely and completely unnecessary, for God has sufficient power to give, and He gives gladly! There is no excuse whatsoever for being weak in God even if you are ever so pitifully weak in yourself. But to be strong in yourself is just plain disgusting!!!
You who acknowledge that your weakness is not permissible, purify your heart and life! Take courage! Become strong! Rise up! Be courageous and strong! Go to action! Do not be a cowardly weakling anymore! But be on guard against strange fire! It has to be holy fire!
Let the power of the Lord’s Holy Spirit saturate and fill your purified heart!
