Where There Is a Will, There Is a Way!

Where There Is a Will, There Is a Way!

This is an almost unbelievably true saying. It applies in nearly every situation. Think of what you want. Think of sports, think of earning much money, think of slander, of looking good, of praising God. Think of arguing, eating, and drinking; think of hospitality and generosity, etc., etc.

As often as not, people reckon that the will to do the good is present; nevertheless, there is a lack of getting it done.

Seen in this light, it is quite amazing to take a look at what the wise apostle Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica (of course, there was only one church in each city!): “Therefore we also pray always for you that God may mightily fill you with all desire for the good . . . .” 2 Thess. 1:11.1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy—these three glorious men of God—didn’t just always pray that the friends in Thessalonica might be filled with something they were already full of! Thus the desire to do the good was also not as it could have been. Usually people reckon that the desire is present in any case. However, this is a false assumption! Not even that was satisfactory.

And this is the point on which the above-mentioned saying is very true. If there had been a mighty fullness of desire for the good in our hearts, then something tremendous also would have happened. A flood of goodness would have flowed out from us!!! This is really something to meditate on. Think of something so pitifully wretched that even the desire to do the good is lacking!?

When, in addition to this, we take to heart what it says in verse 3 of the same chapter, it gives us even more food for thought! Even though it was going extremely very well with them—even in spite of it—they still lacked the mighty fullness of all desire for the good!

However, these three men of God had to believe that it would go well, for they always prayed for it, and this in turn was a manifestation of their fullness.
