That Eternal Life

“In Him was life, and he life was the light of men.” John 1:4. A natural man lives in death. Without salvation he is heading toward everlasting death because he is beset by sin, and the reward of sin is death. Every person is under condemnation for the sake of sin. Therefore Jesus came with salvation from sin and death for all those who believe. And not only that, He came with life, and the life was the light of men. He “abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” 2 Tim. 1:10.

Living and walking in the Spirit and not committing sin—that is life! Jesus was tempted by the devil, but He did not fall in temptation; He conquered the devil without being defiled by sin in any way. Therefore He could be God’s sacrificial Lamb and could forgive everyone their sins, by faith, and He also became everyone’s forerunner.

“For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. . . . For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” Rom. 5:16, 19.

People sit in the prison of sin, but Jesus can set the captives at liberty. Even though religious preachers say that you cannot be freed from sin’s captivity, Jesus, nevertheless, redeemed man and paid the price, so that when people believe in the Word, neither Satan nor powers nor preachers can hinder that from happening. The secret is that you must reckon with God’s power and not with your own strength.

“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.” Rom. 5:17-18.

Who are those who receive this abundance of grace of the gift of righteousness? They are the ones who are tired of sin ruling over them and who believe that God is mighty to set them free from the power of sin, giving them eternal life in Jesus Christ. They will live and rule by Him and will no longer be subject to the enslaving power of sin in any form.

Most people who are called believers do not actually believe God’s Word and are therefore not obedient to the Word; as a result, they do not partake of the promises. For this is an established fact: It is in this life that we are saved from the power of sin and its rule and partake of the life that was revealed to us through the gospel.

“The life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us . . . .” 1 John 1:2.

You can hear people say, “No man can live without sinning even if he uses all his strength.” Of course it is true that our own strength is insufficient. But that is not what God meant, or did He? When you say that God’s power cannot set you free from the power of sin, you think you know better than God and speak against His word! Jesus came to save His people from their sins. Matt. 1:21.

We must not let the believer’s life be only a conversation about something that the first Christians possessed; we personally must rule over sin. We must devote ourselves to believing all the blessed words of God that clearly speak about a glorious victory in life.
