The Fruit of Righteousness Is Sown in Peace
“Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.” V. 18.
It is quite common to hear carnal people arguing. Their wills are colliding. They don’t think about sowing or doing anything good. But the one who is wise, “Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.”
In former days the grain was sown on the field by hand. It was not possible to sow if there was a strong wind. This also applies to spiritual things. Nothing good ever comes of arguing. If you think of sowing something into someone, the person has to come to rest before he is able to hear and receive anything. My meekness and wisdom is meant to bring him into rest. The storm has to subside first before you can sow anything.
A servant in the church must not be violent, but meek; not quarrelsome. 1 Tim. 3:3. It is easy for an exhortation to become an accusation if you want to exhort someone whom you can barely tolerate. There is no accusation in the Spirit of Christ. Consequently, we must always cleanse out the sin in ourselves first in order to receive the meekness of wisdom that is necessary so we can help the other person. Therefore it is more profitable to exercise ourselves in patience and mercy when storms rage, rather than tryto sow something in someone else.
