The Spirit of the World—The Spirit of Truth

Before we came to God, we were all led by the spirit of the world. Satan is the god and lord of this world, and he uses his power and cunning to deceive people and keep them in his darkness.

Everyone extolls and loves earthly things, and through that, Satan has power in people’s hearts; as long as they praise these things, they praise the god of this world without realizing it. People are in darkness, not knowing whom they serve, while thinking they serve themselves. According to what people were taught in their childhood, they are afraid of Satan and want nothing to do with him. Nevertheless, they are fully engaged in his undertakings; because they are in darkness, they love them and seek them.

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” John 8:12.

The Spirit of truth is the Spirit of light, but the spirit of the world is the spirit of darkness. By following Jesus, we enter into the light of life, at the same time exiting the darkness we were in before we began to obey the Holy Spirit. He who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. John 12:35.

We realize that both light and darkness are subject to spirits. By means of light, we enter into fellowship with the Spirit of truth, and by means of darkness, we enter into fellowship with evil spirits. “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.” John 12:46.

“But Jesus answered them, ‘My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.’” John 5:17. Jesus is working, and there is salvation for all who would believe, and there is work for all who are saved by faith. May this be a serious matter for many! There are religious people all over the world who understand nothing of this because they love the world with all of their heart, all the while believing that they love God. They are in darkness, bound by Satan, not realizing whom they serve.

Here we need laborers who are equipped for this work!

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17.

The spirit of the world wages war against the Spirit of truth. May everyone understand the significance of having the Helper, the Spirit of truth, in his heart and the opportunities that are being offered by listening to Him and obeying Him. Then this battle will be easy, and everything will go well. Many people do not realize the value of it, and as a result, progress is slow, if there is any progress at all! The spirit of this world maintains its power over a person because he continues to love this world and the things in the world.

“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Gal. 5:16. We will know and see His way, which will then become our way, and we will draw closer to God. Love draws us together, and love draws us closer to the Lord. The Spirit works all this according to the laws of the Spirit.

No one must lose courage! The beginner stands by faith, in Jesus’ faith; he is crucified with Christ and completely surrendered to Him in order to follow Him. He is in full fellowship with Christ and with the brethren, for there is no essential difference here, but there is a difference as regards the time and degree. For having begun to believe—having a genuine and vibrant faith—can be compared to when Abraham looked at himself. All “self” has been sentenced to death in Christ because nothing good dwells there. We must not become weak in faith nor doubt God’s promises; on the contrary, we must grow strong in faith and give God the honor.

May God mightily bless us all in these last days.
